IET Guidance Note 1: Selection & Erection is a practical reference that explains how to choose and install electrical equipment in accordance with the IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671). It consolidates the requirements and best practice for equipment selection, siting and installation, supporting safe, compliant electrical design and installation work.

This guide focuses on BS 7671 Part 5 (Chapters 51–56), including common rules, wiring systems, protection and switching, earthing and protective conductors, other equipment, and safety services. It is widely used by electricians, designers, installers and inspectors as an everyday companion to the Wiring Regulations.
